One of three municipal courses (Lochgreen and the shorter Fullarton being the other two) located in the center of Troon. It is said that more golf happens here on a given day than anywhere in Scotland except perhaps St. Andrews. For a certainty, Troon has the best pay-and-play golf in the country thanks to this municipal facility.

Course Details

Course Name: Darley Holes: 18 Yardage: 6501 SSS: 72
The Darley course is tight and winding, with heavy gorse and heather, nasty ravines and several blind holes. It is shorter, narrower and trickier than Lochgreen-very much traditional links. The first holes of all three courses parallel one another, as do all three finishing holes.

I had the privilege to play the Darley Course in October 1999. I can say that the staff were most helpful in accommodating our desire to experience 'Links' golf. While we started out with a mist in the air, the day was a normal coastal day until the 14th hole where a gailforce wind and driving rain made getting out of the gorse almost impossible. What a true test of fortitude and endurance was before us. Probably the highlight of my golfing experience.

I used to play all 3 courses a few years back, Lochgreen was my favourite.
However, having recently played Lochgreen and Darley, I can say that Darley is now easily the better course.
I was disappointed with my round on Lochgreen. Why?
    1. Building works at the end of hole 1.
    2. Holes 4 and 5 (Which were the best on the course) have now been ruined. I understand the need to move the tee to a safer location but the new low tee just will not give the same enjoyment. Also, the gorse along the RHS of both fairways has been removed to our disappointment-especially around the green. I hope you plan to replant more along the edges.
    3. Generally, the condition of the course (esp at 8 and 11) was not as good. Grass on fairways too long although greens are always good.
    4. At hole no. 16 the bunkers in dip on RHS were almost overgrown with grass. Another pity since this hole gave you the option of playing it long down LHS or trying over the bunkers, which you now think are not part of this course.
    PLEASE BRING BACK THE BUNKERS
I am not trying to be picky when criticising the course, which has many other good features, but in the meantime I will be playing Fullarton and Darley, which are in much better shape. Kevin Dunbar, Lanark

Top course, tight and very punishing. Golf as it should be. Many misunderstood parts to it that only years of play can let you in to. For the tourist and anyone over 10 handicap it is best to steer clear of this course as it will punish you, the Lochgreen would be a better bet for you.
