Private members club established in 1997 on the site of Vale Royal Abbey - England's largest Cistercian Abbey founded by Edward I and dating from 1278. | Vale Royal Abbey Golf Club is set within one of the County's most important historic estates. The superb 18 hole golf course, built to top international standards is laid out on fine natural golfing terrain and rolling sandy soil, which surrounds the awe inspiring converted Mansion. Bounded by the River Weaver, and enjoying stunning views through mature woodland, lakes and meadows. The Simon Gidman designed course has superbly shaped greens, constructed to USGA guidelines, and a fully automated irrigation system to ensure ideal all year round playing conditions. Overall the design, with its clever use of cross fairway bunkering and greenside swales, compliments the existing contours and natural beauty of the environment at Vale Royal. The course layout integrates a number of special features with a balanced mixture of par 3, 4 and 5 holes, some played across water, through mature woodland, historic parkland or testing open heath. However, all 18 holes offer a variance of difficulty, designed to ensure a pleasurable golfing experience for players of all abilities.
