I've had the pleasure of playing many of the courses of the North East and thought it a shame to only see negative comments on here.
First - this is a very friendly course - I've played in 3 times I think and the pro and members are very helpful
Second - this is a good course. The first hole has a great blind shot to the green, the 12th is a long par 4 well protected green with a lake. And even if you make it you have a tough sloping green to tackle.
The last 6 or 7 holes are links in nature as right be the sea. I think they must have lost a hole into the sea at some stage and changed the layout a bit as some of the bunkers seem to face the wrong way but still good holes. the 17th and 18th make for a nice finish.
Overall I would recommend this course

My society played at Whitburn on 22/02/09, This is the worst course i have played on, we had to play from the rough but the group infront was allowed to play from the fairways, we were not informed of the 18th only playing as a par 3 not a par 4 as it is meant. The first 13 holes are very bland but the last 5 are quite nice to the eye. I would not recommend this course to my worst enemy.

        Tony,
Am very dissapointed that you did not enjoy your day at Whitburn. During your visit 'Winter Rules' were in force and I am very surpised that you did not see them as copies were posted around the club and outside the Professionals Shop. I am also disheartened to see that the winter rules were not being adhered to, as we do not play directly off the fairways in the winter, but use mats of move the ball into the semi rough at the side of the fairways. This helps protect the fairways. Since your visit, we have installed a winter mat at the 18th tee, which allows us to play this hole as a par 4 throughout the year.
