Willow Valley is one of the regions newest and most exciting golfing venues, ideal for corporate entertainment offering a challenge for golfers of all abilities both on and off the course. With the South Course recently voted as the 9th best new course in the British Isles rest assured your day with us will fulfill all your expectations.

The courses were built under the supervision of John Newton, with professional advice from Jonathan Gaunt. The staff of Willow Valley Farms successfully took on the task of construction and provided the labour for all the work. Prior to the development of the golf courses the land provided 5,000 tons of silage to feed 1500 head of cattle. Construction of the Fountain or North Course, which occupies 35 acres, commenced October 1992 and opened for play exactly a year later in October 1993. The construction of the 160 acre Championship or South Course commenced October 1993 and the first 12 holes were in play from December 1995. The full 18 holes were officially opened on 21st June 1997. 15,000 tons of sand was used in the construction and it is irrigated using a well situated on the course itself, which supplies 3,000,000 gallons annually. Some of this water is used to irrigate the greens, which on average cover an area of 850 square metres. Fifteen lakes have been created, and 8 tons of bulbs have been planted along with 50,000 trees and shrubs. There are plans for the continued enhancement of the environment with further planting on the course and further stocking of fish in the lakes.

I didn't want to be negative about Willow Valley, but its hard to avoid it! On paper, the course looks great - a very american-style course, with an interesting layout. However, for he price they charge to play it, it just doesn't make the grade.
As in the other reviews, the walks from greens to tees are an irritation, but the biggest let-down are the 'feature holes' on the course. The 10th, 2nd and 7th LOOK great, but in practice just don't work. Having watched the pro's play it in the Yorkshire PGA championship, even they struggled - and not one was positive about the course, which tells its own story for me.
Having played the course a couple of times, I'm never that impressed by the state of the course. I appreciate that the weather gets a bit ropey up on Hartshead Moor, but its very pricey considering that the fairways are sometimes absolutely sodden - the greens, admittedly, are normally pretty good.
A shame really, as its one of those courses that you like the look of - playing it is just a bit of a let-down.

Willow Valley is an exceptional course - one of the very few in the UK with imaginative and challenging water hazards. Now the course has matured and the wild life areas are fully stocked, all this adds to the whole course experience. It's a tough course for high handicappers - but never boring. Unlike many "up and down" courses where each hole looks the same, Willow Valley demands different skills on each of the 18 holes.
Uniquely for lady golfers - the course offers exactly the same facilities and services as for men.
Clubhouse catering is comprehensive and good quality - and there is an essential "halfway house" with snacks, drinks and clean facilities.

I played this course with three new golfers, we were looking for somewhere suitable for a newcomer to the game to get some confidence. We found this little 9-hole course ideal with most of the holes comfortable par threes. The greens and fairways were in good condition and made value for money.
