A brief history of Emporda Golf Club. In 1989 a group of Catalan businessmen, joint by their interest for the game of golf and settled in the area of the Baix Empordà, decided to create a high level golf and residential complex. In order to obtain this objective, a land with suitable characteristics was looked for, needing to be central and well situated right in the centre of the Costa Brava. Furthermore, full trust was put in the design of the North American Robert von Hagge, one of the world´s best architects for golf courses.

In 1989 a property of 125 hectares, located in the village of Gualta, was purchased. In 1990 the construction of the driving range and the first 18 holes began. In 1991 the Green Course (9 holes) was inaugurated and at the beginning of 1992 the Blue Course (9 holes). During 1993 the remaining 9 holes were built and called the Gold Course. The Club house was inaugurated coinciding with the Amateur Spanish Championship in September 1996..

Facilities include Golf school, caddy, proshop, nursery, restaurant, snack bar and swimming pool.

Course Details

Course Name: Emporda Holes: 27 Yardage: 6687 SSS: 71
At present, the Emporda Golf Course, has three nine hole courses : the green, the blue and the gold course. Each of these can either be played independently or through combining with any of the other two forming three different 18 hole courses. The competition course, where the most important club tournaments are held, is formed by the green and the blue holes. These are characterized by the large surface of its greens which allow a big variety of flag positions, giving the course manifold possibilities of play. One therefore gets the feeling of going on a different golf course every time.

I visited Costa Brava with friends, and Emporda is defenitely the best course we played. We were 10 days in a hotel nearby and played 3 days at Emporda. Forest is beautiful and Links fantastic. Also nice restaurants in the area (actually the best one in the word this year) is only 30 minutes from Emporda. As we where only at 10 minutes from the golf we also went to Dali Museum, Girona old city (both very close) and of course Barcelona around 75 km.
All group is looking forward playing Emporda Golf next year

This was our first course on a holiday to the Costa Brava. Turned up expecting to get a 3 course pass, as advertised to be told the offer was closed (it wasn't as we found out at the 2nd course). They tried to sell us a 5 course pass providing we played 3 rounds at Emporda.
Despite arguing the case, they refused. Left a bad taste and would not recommend anyone plays this course unless you want to get ripped off, go to Pals instead, much nicer, very much more friendly than this lot.

If you want a great golfing experience then do visit Pals Golf Course. They have managed the course for many years and when you arrive you will find the staff and club delightful.
Go to Emporda and she will not find the same ambience . The front line ataff at the two courses are splendid but the management of Emporda is dreadful.

If you are considering buying a property here then be warned...Do not ask for membership as when they are busy with green club fees they say you cannot play..unless one plays at 8am.
They will take your membership fees and not tell you how undervalued you are.
The club is to into the art of making money and I must say if you want to experience a better service go to Pals.
The service is great and the course superb

We waited six years for an apartment in the golf course.
We were assurred our membership was valued.
Do not buy a property here with membership. The latter means nothing as they bump you of the course if they have a better short term revenue.
I have tried today to book times but unless I am prepared to play at 8am I cannot have a tee time.

Played the two Pals courses (Platja and Serres) in April 2006, and they were superb. However, the Emporda Forest course was the best in my view. The course provided an extremely tough test in the breeze, but was a joy to play. The course was in perfect condition, absolutely immaculate fairways and true greens - a top quality course which I would strongly recommend.

We played both courses at Emporda. First the linkscourse. Beautiful design, but awful surroundings. Management decided to build resortprison along the golfcourse. Very unpleasant and horrifying view. Besides this, greenkeepers decided to throw loads of calcium on the course. It looked like we were playing on the North Pole. It is a real pity that such events take place during our shortbreak of 4 days! I didn't mention the greenkeeper that was stalking for at least 4 holes. Starting his engine exactly at times when I try to make my shot. Friends made me a compliment for not killing him immediately.

Don't complain about greenkeepers, they have to do their job. If they sit about waiting for golfers to hit every shot, you'll be playing in foot high grass.

Played both the links and forest in October 05 and found them in great condition. The greens on both were fast but true and the links had some very intresting pin positions. The links provides a contrast to most tree lined couses in the area. Both are a must play and offer great value for money. All standard of golfer will enjoy these courses and will want to return like ourselves.

Emporda's new nine is now open for play, and they now have a great links style 18 holes and a woodland 18.Construction of an underground car park is almost complete and a hotel will shortly be bult on the site as well as a limited number of houses, these in addition to the apartments already on site. At PGA de Catalunya a second 18 is under costruction this again designed by Neil Coles and Angel Gallardo, and a 110 bedroom hotel is under construction. With four or five direct Ryanair flight routes from the UK into Gerona now up and running, why go anywhere else? Please note I am just an independent golf writer whose only motive for this PR blurb is my wife and I love the area, its courses, restaurants and accomodations. All the 11 local courses have their own web sites and many of the hotels and apartment complexes also. Keith Duckworth

Have just returned from a 5 day break in L'Estatit on the Costa Brava.
While there managed to play a round of golf at a very good course..
I,m talking about the Emporda Golf Club just outside Touroella de Montgri
We played the yellow and blue course known I believe as the forest course..
The course was in excellent condition with well cut greens and well looked after fairways,it reminds you of Woburn Golf Course with most of the holes in the trees and some over some water..
The price was very reasonable only 68 euros for 18 holes and a trolley and a set of Wilson Fat Shaft Irons(very good clubs)
The staff were extrememly helpful and the girl we spoke to spoke perfect english so hiring a set of clubs was no trouble at all..
There also appeared to be a good restaurant on the site and a good shop as well..
Would recommend this club to anyone travelling that way for a good day's golf

Played green and blue courses last year in October. Fantastic condition, really nice staff too. Good contrast with the green 9 being open with lots of water and the blue 9 cutting its way through the forest.
Have also previously played the gold 9, very good through the woods, similar to the blue.
I am going out again in May but will have to play the new red 9. Looked fairly open when it was being built, will post a new review when I get back.

I play a lot of golf on the costa del sol around valderrama and am used to some fantastic (but bloody expensive)courses.
Last May, I played Emporda, PGA Catalunya and Pals and was very suprised by the standard of the courses AND the fact that it wasn't 6 hour rounds.
Emporda is a fantastic venue with the front 9 like an american target/stadium course and the back 9 like a woodlands course. Fantasic facilities as well.
PGA Catalunya is a jewel and only 35 minutes from Emporda (Near Girona). Do yourselves a favour and play both. You won't regret it.

Couldnt agree more about PGA de Catalunya. Played in May this year and they are really trying there to overcome the problems they had last year. It's much improved now and a real test. 51 Euros wont break the bank to play an excellent course.
Played PGA in preference to Emporda where I feel they are keeping green fee payers off the woodland courses.

I have seen both of you playing and your swing should be suitable for just this course. Roger must have reach his handicap on a very easy home course?
As i say, play against Roger is like walk in the park.
