Menaggio GC is unusual in two ways. Firstly, its design looks unchanged from it founders some 100 years back so golfers can play there and reflect on the old styled park land courses. In this regard, this course reminded me of Richmond Golf Club near London with narrow fairways and shallow bunkers. Moreover, the course is the hilliest I have ever played and I often found myself having to stand still for 2 minutes to catch my breath on the tee box before teeing off. I am a fit guy that works out 3 times a week. I cannot imagine how older folk could manage this course. AS an example, the stroke index one hole is about 411 yards straight up hill and the fairway appears 20-30 yards wide to the eye from the tee box.
All in all I would not recommend this course when compared with other options in the Como vacinity. The staff at the club are also not particularly friendly.

I played this golf course in the Fall of 2004. At the time, I was 64 years old and walked the course four or five times over a two week period. I thoroughly enjoyed this course and look forward to playing it again. My wife, who doesn't play golf, would walk nine and then retire to the clubhouse for lunch while I finished the back nine. The staff was wonderful and the chef went out of his way to make several special dishes for her. We are Americans who speak little Italian, but try.
