Stayed at the country club in October 2004. As the course was attached to a modest country club I was expecting it to be in mediocre condition and not particularly testing. Very pleasantly surprised to find a well maintained course with several varied and interesting holes. The course was not very busy but overall excellent value for money.

It was a very windy day in Cork when I played Fernhill. There was plenty of room left and right on about 12 of the holes, which was badly needed! The 3rd and 8th holes offer very challenging drives for the low handicappers and daunting drives for the high handicapper. The downhill par 5 17th and uphill par 4 18th offer two lovely finishing holes. If can't afford the £120 to play Old Head, then try Fernhill. A bargain at £14!

I played Fern Hill in June of 1997. We were staying in Myrtleville and I wanted to play a round with the local folks. I arrived at the couse on a Saturday around 7 AM. To my suprise there was no one there. It seems in Ireland weekend golf is not what it is in the states. I went back at 8 AM. and was lucky enough to find a threesome just arriving. I introduced myself and we were the first group off. I had a great time with these three. Fernhill is not overly long or difficult. However it is a fun course to play. It looked fairly new, young trees defining fairways etc. I'm an 8 hcp and a fairly long hitter. I found many of the par 4's to be driver and short irons. If your only playing one course in Cork skip Fern Hill and play Old Head or Cork but if you want a nice round on a course that won't beat you up then by all means give Fern Hill a go.
