You have to be very accurate when hitting the ball on this course. If you veer right you end up in the sea, if you veer right you end up in a bunker!

Greenore Golf course is a stern test of golf. The contrasts between the panoramic, mountainous views and the beauty of Carlingford Lough provide a fitting backdrop for a course that is as beguiling as it is treacherous. Rarely played without the presence of the wind, clubbing correctly is a must; particularly at the par three sixth-where anything other than perfection will meet a watery grave. For those that err on the long side they face an intimidating chip over bunkers on to a green that runs away from them towards the 'drink'. Which brings me neatly to the clubhouse; where a friendly welcome and a fantastic pint of the black stuff await the tired and weary. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area!!!!

Greenore Golf Club is a wonderfully mixed bag of variety, with 6 of the outward holes incorporating the spray of the Irish Sea, it then backs itself on to a semi-parkland adventure.
A tough opening hole with a 218yd, par3, with a narrow green and steep bunkers, lined with trees, lets you know you're in for a real test.
Par 71 is an achievable target to a player below handicap 5, anything under 80 for the rest is acceptable.
Many local golf heroes emanate from this course, to name but a few 'Mr Consistency' John Murphy and 'Big Mac ( Large Fries )' Pat McParland. Legend has it that they still manage to keep their handicaps at around 5.
Excellent value during the midweek for green fees, and even less when playing with a member, forget the rest in the North East, a lack of space for expansion is the only reason this course is not used as for championship events ( although the Irish Assistant Professionals Championship have used it for 6 years).
