As part of Brucies Golfing Society, about 20 of us have stayed at this hotel for 1 weekend in July for the last 6 years. The hotel is excellent, the course superb, with many memorable holes.
The 1st 8 holesare particular impressive, with the River Bovey winding through the course, and in play on all 8 holes.
The 7th hole is very demanding, requiring a drive of over 220 yards to safely clear the river, which snakes twice across the hole before you reach the fairway, then runs the entire length of the hole down the right, with trees and a ditch running the entire length of the left. The fairways at its widest is approx. 30 yards short hole but tough, a par 4 is a good score, I settle for a 5 each time.
This course can be recommended, but higher handicap players should take plenty of balls, both physically and mentally. The hotel is great too, Westham if have been there for the last 3 years, Middlesborough Football Club were there before that, and 2 years ago we saw Peter O'toole in the dining room, superb, 5 star service all round.
