Ireland golf in pictures: Enniscrone Golf Club' Dunes course
Enniscrone Golf Club opened in 1918, expanded to 18 holes in 1974 and now has 27. The most important change was the addition of six holes in 2000 designed by architect Donald Steele. Located amid the property's most rugged links terrain, the Steele holes - Nos. 2-4 and 14-16 on what is now the Dunes course - elevated Enniscrone into the first rank of golf clubs on Ireland's northwest coast.
This isn't the kind of golf course you can jump out of your car and play. The first four holes are very difficult and require precision. The 16th is the star, a par 5 that plays with high dunes to the right and seacoast to the left. Visitors are given a warm welcome by members and staff, and at €55-€70 in peak season Enniscrone is a fantastic bargain for golfers willing to leave the more popular southwest coast.
