The Montgomerie is the newest of the three golf courses at the Celtic Manor Resort in Wales. Actually, it comprises many holes from its old Wentworth course. But it's also been renovated, with new holes being created. It's a shockingly mountainous course, nowhere more so than on the par-5 third hole, which plays straight downhill from about 300 yards in.
The Montgomerie course is 6,393 yards from the championship tees but can play longer. Many greens are elevated, and there are few flat lies. The hole variety and memorability may actually be greater here than on the new, heralded Ryder Cup Course just next door.
