This is a tough one!! I have played almost every course in the Midlands area over the years, and I can honestly say this is one of the toughest!! Long and tight in places, the par 3s are a delight, loads of water. If you shoot your handicap or score 36 stapleford you have played near your best!! try it you will not be dissapointed!!
    P.S take plenty of balls!!!

I don't think that the back 9 is overly long. The long holes are rightly par 5's and the 17th & 18th are some of the shortest par 4's I've played. Perhaps Rob gets the ball caught up in his skirt?

Abbey Park is a good course which is well kept. The only downside to it is that the back nine plays very long and is extermly difficult. There are also problems with drainage

Had the pleasure of playing Abbey Park in June 2004. The course was in good condition. The fairways were narrow and fast. For big hitters leave the driver in the bag. Plenty of "cops" to cause problems for the second shot for wayward tee shots. The greens were slow but true. Over all an enjoyable round.

What can be said about this course that no local golfer has not already said... I have played the Abbey several times over the last 2 years. I play of a handicap of 8.6 having played competition golf in the West midland league for 4 years - playing all local golf clubs. It is the toughest Par 72 you will ever be unfortunate to play. We are thinking of banning all players that enter our open with Abbey handicaps (they are usually 10-20% better than the norm). Friends that are members tell me that 'if you play to your handicap in the monthly medal you will be in with a shout'.
So - the bottom line is - if you don't quite make it around on your mark - DO NOT DESPAIR! It's the Abbey habit!!

Abbey Park Golf Club was renamed to Abbey Hotel some 12 months ago when the course was bought by the Lea Marsden group (who run a course near the Belfry) The past 12 months has seen some drastic changes to the course, the previous problems with drainage etc have been addressed, new tees have been built, new water features have been added and the par is now 72. The work is on-going and within the next 12 months golfers will soon realise that this course is by no means a pushover. With 3 testy par 3's and the 18th par 4 being potentially drivable for the big hitters (at least until the lake is completed in front of the green) Abbey Hotel is a great day out for golfers of any handicap.
