Portugal Reader Review: Reader applauds Portugal's Alto Golf & Country Club in the Algarve
We have stayed at a villa by the side of the fifth fairway and played the Alto Golf & Country Club several times. We liked the views and the fact that there was much more than golf. The course was quite busy in October, but the weather was marvelous!
England Reader Review: Hainault Forest golf: The price isn't right, Martin Lumb says
We have played Hainault Forest Golf Club in England many times in the past but haven't been there for over a year. We can only think that the large increase in price was to pay for the gimmick of satellite navigation in the buggies. I walk the golf course, so why should I have to pay for that?
France Reader Review: France's Chiberta Golf Club: C'est magnifique
Chiberta Golf Club in France is terrific. The moment you cross the road and start the second this is terrific links golf. That's before rolling back into the trees around nine and 10 and then 15 through to 18.
England Reader Review: Reader: Peacehaven Golf Club among southern England's toughest courses
Jordan Passco: Peacehaven Golf Club in East Sussex, England, is a really challenging course, with the par-3 No. 1 having a local reputation for being one of the hardest firsts on the south coast. It's a really good course if you are trying to improve your accuracy.
Ireland Reader Review: Carton House Golf Club is an Irish challenge, reader says
Steve Van Ullen: Played Carton House Golf Club in County Kildare during the 2006 Ryder Cup week. The course may be more an American course than Irish parkland but is challenging enough to keep one's interest.
Ireland Reader Letter: Reader to McDonald: British, Irish get along just fine, thanks
Despite their troubled history, the Irish and British DO get along. Thousands of Irish people support British football clubs and travel over for matches every weekend. I could say that Americans are ill-informed, overweight, ridiculously religious and self-centered, but I know that is not true.
Northern Ireland Reader Review: Northern Ireland's Moyola Park Golf Club a disappointment, reader says
The golf course at the Moyola Park Golf Club in Northern Ireland was in very disappointing condition when I played it and is definitely not recommended at any time other than summer.
Portugal Reader Review: Portugal's Golden Eagle Golf Club far from a golden play, reader says
"You might be interested to know that it took six hours to play, that the management did not have rangers who helped to speed up play, and that local competitions took clear precedent over fee-paying guests. In addition, the smell from the local pig farm was overwhelming."
Ireland Reader Review: Warrenpoint Golf Club in Ireland maintains high quality
Warrenpoint Golf Club County Down is a very well-maintained, well-laid-out, mature Ireland parkland course. The greens and tee boxes are particularly well-kept. The only slight downfall is that a number of fairways cross each other.
Ireland Reader Review: Old Head Golf Links is head of the class in County Cork, reader says
W.A. Hoggard: "I played Old Head Golf Links in County Cork, Ireland, in August 2006 with two buddies, and it was ultimate golf. Eighteen holes of Pebble Beach beauty and a finely designed and conditioned golf course."
Wales Reader Letter: The whole nine: Encourage your golf club to encourage half rounds
Time management is the key to everybody's happiness, and the compromise between spending time with your family and playing golf is and always will be nine holes.
Scotland Reader Letter: Golfer fondly recalls learning to play in Montrose, Scotland
Joseph Brown: "I grew up on the Montrose Golf Courses. Too many times Montrose is in the shadows of more famous British Open courses, when it should be looked upon as one of the best links courses in Scotland."
Italy Reader Review: Tuscany's Castelfalfi Golf and Country Club: Odd place, great play
You arrive down a steep, bumpy track, get changed in a shed, pay your fee in another shed, play a super golf course and drink/eat (very well) afterwards in another shed.
England Reader Review: Head for the hills of Northumberland's Alnwick Golf Club
The second hole at Alnwick Golf Club is an uphill par 3 and the third is challenging. Big hitters will make it to the top of the hill, but shorter hitters will have to play their tee shot halfway up the hill, and there are trees all the way up the hills.
Spain Reader Review: Golf at Las Ramblas in Spain leaves a lot to be desired, reader says
It took almost four and a half hours to complete the 18 holes, as we were following a Spanish person who had taken his wife, mother-in-law and young son with him onto the course. Only he was playing, or trying to: He hit at least two balls from every tee and three on some occasions!
