I am not sure which course this discussion should be about. The summary page is titled "Adare Manor Golf Club" but then talks about Darae Golf. These are actually two completely different clubs and are two worlds apart.
To start with the main one. Adare Golf Course is the world famous one attached to the Manor (hence the confusion with the name. There was a legal action some years ago to decide who had the rights to the name Adara Manor and the club attached to the Manor lost to the older Club). It is a course I have only walked around but it is for me the perfect golf course. Peace, quite and each hole appears set into the landscape and surrounds as if they were built around the hole and ot the other way around. The fairways are so well kept and maintained you would feel guilty to take a divot and I can imagine players having the satisfaction of hitting a perfect shot and then a sudden feeling of horror when they realise they have taken even a small divot from the perfection around them. I look forward to seeing Woods et al playing there in July 2005.
Now the Adare Manor golf course. An older course also in beautiful settings but spoiled by expansion beyond it's capabilities. The course is challenging with ruined castles and churches integrated into the course. This is a truly entertaining course but overshadowed by two things. FIrstly it's World Class neighbour across the river and an expansion to 18 holes which simply makes you feel crowded. You are back at the same tee box at least 3 times and you find yourself walking along the fairway only to get shouted at because you have crossed the path of a tee box and nearly got decapitated by a Titleist interacting with a Big Berta. Don't get me wrong they have a good course it's just that if they had purchased more land for the expansion from 12 to 18 holes rather than squeeze into the existing space then they would have a real rival for the near neighbour. You can come up with inventive ways of expansion. Kenmare in Kerry bought land across the road and put their extra holes there.
Overall golf in Adare is served well by two courses. If you play both you won't be disappointed. If you only have time for one then the extra green fees for the main one is well worth it.

Played the course recently with some work associates. Had a great time and the staff could not be nicer. I really recommend it. We stayed in the Dunraven arms Hotel across the road. Overall the best golf vacation I ever had.

My wife and I found this club by mistake when looking for the much more famous (and far more costly) Adare Manor resort right next door. The staff couldn't have been more hospitable, and the golf was very enjoyable.
For good value for money (as oppose to 60 or 70 pounds at the adjoining Adare golf resort, you get to start this wonderful parkland course by hitting a short iron to the first hole par three backed up by a thirteenth century castle. Things just get better from there. Although the course isn't long and some of the tee boxes are a bit hard to find you'll find this 100-year-old course a challenge. It was in great shape, the greens were fair and firm and you even get to explore a ruined abbey after the 14 hole if the play is a bit slow. When we played we had the course almost to ourselves on two occasions.
This was the best 'mistake' we made in Ireland. Be sure to see the blackened, 5,000-year-old oak trunk erected near the 18th green as a memorial to the club's centennial. As the Irish would say this experience was 'lovely'.

My oldest son and I played the course August '96 and found it in wonderful shape. The staff are outstandingly friendly and while the course is very challenging it isn't so heavily played that you have to wait a long time at the next driving area. The setting couldn't be more beautiful with the manor, lake, and stream visible much of the time. I
recommend it highly to all levels of golfers i.e. hacker as I am or good golfers as my two sons and daughter are...
