Golf was first played around 1890 at Bishop Auckland in the outer park of the Palace of the Bishop of Durham by theological students training at the Castle. The Club was established by local business and professional men in 1894 when James Kay was employed to design a course in parkland overlooking the Bishop of Durhams Palace and park. From these early beginnings this course has matured into one of the finest golf courses in the North of England with fairways second to none. This beautiful tree lined course is complemented by superb panoramic views across the Wear Valley. With three par 5 holes in the first four and the challenging par 3 7th and 8th holes, this course provides a good test of golf for all abilities. The recently refurbished Clubhouse provides full catering and refreshment facilities and ensures a very warm welcome at Bishop Auckland.
Directions The Golf Club is situated on Durham Road which runs from the Market Place towards Durham\Spennymoor. The entrance to the Golf Club is situated on the left hand side, when leaving the Market Place, approx half a mile from the Market Place.
