A friendly members course that one would never grow tired of playing. Not terribly long, even from the medal tees, every hole throws a wrinkle at you that could lead to a double. Some of the greens slope away from the fairway making the run-up approach not only prudent but necessary. Another couple of greens belie their true nature due to optical illusion with the surrounding terrain. What appears uphill is the opposite - havoc on your putting stats! There are plenty of hills to negotiate but anyone half-fit will enjoy the hike. The first hole at 420 yards, mostly uphill, is as stern a start as you'd
want and #17 at 375 yards, may be the toughest par four in the U.K. under 400 yards. Only a long, straight drive into the prevailing wind permits an open shot to the green, tall trees at the dogleg otherwise blocking you out. Many holes become easier with experiential knowledge and, if possible, play with a local who can offer tips on how to play the hole and where to hit your shots. The new clubhouse offers superb views of the surrounding vales and fine food. If you sit on the balcony, you can observe play of the first, fifth, sixth, ninth, sixteenth and eighteenth holes! Go out of your way to play it!
