The Celtic Manor Resort
|
Course Name: The Wentwood Hills Holes: 18 Yardage: 7400 SSS: 72
Wentwood Hills is a spectacular course, built alongside the River Usk, with some holes on the steep hillside and others on the valley floor. It was designed by Robert Trent Jones Junior and completed this summer after two years work costing £7M. The course has been built to an exceptional standard and has already been used to stage a member's tournament. The official opening will be on lot May 1999 with Ian Woosnam and Mark James. The course will also be used for the European Amateur championships in August 1999 and the PGA Cup Match between the United States and Great Britain & Ireland in 2000. For an appreciation and independent view of this course please see golfer reviews.
Course Name: The Roman Road Holes: 18 Yardage: 6700 SSS: 69
Designed by renowned course architect, Robert Trent Jones Senior, it straddles the ancient Roman Highway 'Via Julia', which runs along the ridge of Coldra Hill. The course follows the natural contours of the land, weaving among woodland, lakes and ravines and thus provides a variety of testing challenges even for the most experienced golfer. From the hilltop vantage point of the ~ tee you have a superb view of the ancient Roman Fortress town of Isca, now known as Caerleon.
Course Name: The Coldra Woods Holes: 18 Yardage: 4001 SSS: 59
Coldra Woods hugs the steep wooded hillside below the Roman Road course and has all the challenging features you would expect of a Robert Trent Jones Senior design. The course criss-crosses a lake-filled valley with magnificent natural ravines, and is truly spectacular. The front nine can be enjoyed by novices and intermediate golfers, whilst the back nine is a test for anyone. For an appreciation and independent view of this course please see golfer reviews.

I am currently playing of 4 and my wife 23 and my son does not have a handicap. The Celtic Manor Resort offers three courses which are Par 59,69 and 72. Which reflects the fact that anybody can play one of these magnificent courses.
The short Coldra woods course is extremley demanding if you are not hitting greens in regulation, the Roman Road course offers agreat challenge with character like I have never seen before on such a young course. The Wentwood hillls course is a true championship course. The greens and fairways are supreme and the course in general offers an immense test for all golfers. You will struggle to play to your handicap round here which is why The Celtic Manor will make a superb Resort for holding the 2010 Ryder cup.
I Cant Wait for it !

Get a good night's sleep and stock your bag with energy bars and drinks for
18 holes on the magnificent and very demanding Wentwood Hills course. Course
management is the number one priority but a few sessions in practice bunkers
in the days before your round will really help too.
If there are many better inland courses in Wales or the UK I'd like to play
them. Great venue for the Ryder in 2010.

I have been fortunate to play many fine courses around this country and the world I consider Wentwood Hills to up with the best. The view from the summit on the 2nd hole will live in my memory for a long time. I am so impressed with the course and the whole resort I hope I am able to play again very soon 10 out of 10 Celtic Manor.

Played this last week (Oct 99) quite fantastic - played Roman Rd and Wentwood Hills and both are great. Take my advice, play Wentwood Hills whilst affordable, before debut next year on PGA Tour .

I have played the Roman Road Course on 3 occasions and I believe that it is one of the best courses I have ever played. I believe that the resort its self is unbelievable with the two proshop, driving range and many other facilities.
I will be visiting again soon thanks for the previous excellent days.
