I played this course during the last week in Sept 2013. It was, without doubt, the most enjoyable experience I've had on a golf course for many a year. Can't understand how 'unknown' this little course is. Of course it helped that the weather on the day was a glorious mixture of blue skies, gentle breezes, low tides and dry fairways. Connemara, and most particularly the surrounding mountains, inlets and stone-ringed fields, were a backdrop to a great day. As was the welcome in the bar afterwards. And I didn't lose as many balls as others had warned. So as to share my experience, I posted a gallery of images taken on the day, and available on the Flickr site at:

Happened to be down in the Clifden area at the end of February 2014, after one of the worst winters in many a year. While half the country was still under water, I decided to drop in here again on a whim. Yea, a different kind of 'fun' this time! Gale-force winds blowing, occasional 'soft/waterlogged' fairways, threatening rain squalls all around . . . . but the Gods smiled on me, and the rains skirted the area. Mind you, this time I lost more than the usual quota of balls.
If you're ever in the region, make a special effort to play this course.

I played the course on Monday 9th May 2011 on a very windy day and despite the strong breeze it was a joy to play.
Great views and some difficult but enjoyable holes. The staff extremely friendly and welcoming. Hope to be back to play it again.

what a fantastic course with stunning views to match.
although most of greens are being repaired they are still better than some i've played in england.
holes 3 and 5 will challenge everyone ( bring loads of balls or a long scoop )
    friendly staff.

I played the course on May, 10th 2005. One of the last real challenges in a men's world :-). A great course, spectacular and well maintained. I can recommend this course to everybody who likes the real irish golf experience.

I played on Sunday May 16th, an unbelievable experience, great layout, great greens & scenery and good hospitality. My on course comment to my playing partner Chris Nee from Galway was "if heaven is this good roll on".

I had the pleasure of visiting this course in September 2003, having played many courses in Ireland over the years.
It was one of the finest experiences I have had in a most idyllic setting and recommend this `heaven on earth` course to anyone who loves golf. Beware the par 5 on the second nine with the bay on the left,as it is a different drive from the back tee altogether and you mustn`t stray to the left at all.Have fun as it is memorable,as is the hospitality in the club house.

I played Connemara Isles Golf Club, or 'Golf Mara' as the locals call it on 17 May, 2002: a delight for this high handicapper Senior Citizen from the USA. I like it better than some more expensive, big name courses: a 'Links' layout island course with a smaller island that brings water into play on holes 3, 4 and 5, then again on number 9. You may never be happy playing your home course again after you've played a round on Golf Mara. I think it is one of the best golf values in Ireland. I plan to return to Ireland in September and play Golf Mara once again.

Connemara Isles is a wonderful 9 hole Golf course. I think any golfer regardless of handicap, will enjoy this unique seaside layout. The 2nd. 3rd. 4th. 5th and 9th are especially fun to play on a windy day, bring plenty of Pro V1s you'll need them.
Be sure to have a smithwicks by the fire after the round.
