What is it about the Welsh that makes you feel welcome at their golf courses.
I found this course by chance, tucked away in the woods behind Dinas Powys, overlooking Cardiff and the bay.
Although it is not long, the course has some fascinating holes and the greens were in very good condition. The 8th is a downhill par four to a green tucked into the woods, followed by a deceptively short par 3, where hitting the green is the only option. From here you climb to the highest point of the course and the 11th, 12th and 13th have a totally different character to the older parts of the course. The 15th, a straight par 5 lulls you into a sense of false security as you hit your approach over the dip in front of the green. 16 is a driveable par 4 yet the par 4 17th is difficult to hit in two. You finish with a delightful par 3 in front of the clubhouse where both the meals and beer are all you would expect from a friendly local club.
If you have 3 hours to spare when you are in Cardiff, I cannot think of a more pleasant place to spend them.
