MYSELF AND A GROUP OF 19 OTHER MATES JUST SPENT A LONG W,END AT 5 LAKES IN ESSEX FROM FRI 8TH OCT TO SUN 10TH. WE ALL WERE IMPRESSED WITH THE HOTEL AND FACILITIES , THE FOOD WAS OUTSTANDING , AND THE LAKES COURSE VERY ENJOYABLE AND WELL PRESENTED . THE LINKS COURSE WAS NOT SO GOOD FOR THE FIRST 9 HOLES AND A TAD BLAND . HOWEVER THE BACK 9 DID HAVE A BIT MORE DEFINITION TO IT . THIS DIDNT SPOIL OUR OVERALL ENJOYMENT THOUGH.WE HAD 2 ROUNDS ON THE LAKES AND ONE ON THE LINKS OVER THE 3 DAYS .THE ONLY DOWN SIDE TO THE WEEKEND WAS THE BAR/S . IT KEPT RUNNING OUT OF A CERTAIN DARK IRISH BEER , THE ADNAMS WAS TOO COLD , AND THE STAFF COULDNT PULL SMOOTHFLOW IN ONE ATTEMPT . THEY ALWAYS HAD TO LET IT SETTLE . THERE WAS NEVER MORE THAN ONE SERVING EITHER , SO QUES WERE FORMING . THAT ASSIDE....A VERY ENJOYABLE W,END.

Played here twice in beautiful weather over the Bank Holiday weekend. Really nice course made quite difficult by water hazards and streams. Very picturesque course. Undulating rather than hilly. This is very much the 'Number 1' course, with the 'links' course being a poor cousin compared to the 'lakes'.
Would recommend anyone nearby to give it a try. As a bonus the hotel on site is superb.
