Established in 1928, Headfort Golf Club is one of the finest Parkland course in the country. In 1944 a new superbly designed clubhouse, with full bar and catering facilities was opened. The view from the lounge and restaurant is simply breathtaking. In 1998 the club purchased a further 247 acres of adjoining land which includes two wonderful islands on the river Blackwater. This is home to a spectacular collection of both national and Asiatic trees. Christy O'Conor Jnr has been commissioned to design a second 18 hole complex on this land, making maximum use of its tress, water and natural features. It is expected to have this course completed, which we anticipated will rival the very best in Ireland, open for play in the year 2000. The club is now open for membership of both courses and details can be obtained from the Club Secretary.

Headfort offers two of the best golf challenges you can get anywhere. The old course and its mature trees and classic layout is superb, The new course is addictive as you will always leave it feeling you can do better and thats the best recommendation you can make about any course. Just bring plenty of balls fpr the new course as the water acts like a magnet at times. 10 / 10
Clubhouse staff are very friendly and food is excellent. The Pro shop is well stocked and also makes you feel at home.

I have played the New Course twice now, it was so good the first time I just had to go back. Excellent fairways, fabulous greens make this a must for all golfers.Almost every hole would be the "signature hole" at many courses. Got to hit your irons well on most of the par 3's. The weather was awful on both occassions but the course more than made up for that, it was in superb condition and with some stunning holes.

With a mixture of mature trees and the natural water hazard that is the Blackwater, the New Course proved to be something of a revelation. Already one of my favourites and of true Championship standard in these days of every second new course alluding to the name.

The old course is an impecable track. The rough is quite forgiving but with beautiful mature trees everwhere, accuracy is a must. Greens and fairways simply 1st class. When packing you golf bag, you could be excused for considering packing a chain saw among your 14 clubs!!!
The new course will test any golfer. Some of the most spectacular holes available in the country. The 4th is somewhat reminicent of the '3rd' at Mt Juliet. Leave the chainsaw at home but bring a snorkle and a few spare balls. Water, water verywhere. The course criss crosses the Blackwater river with at least 3 particularly memorable holes driving across the river.
Ample supply of bunkers all stocked with soft sand. Not a course for a learner. Beautiful clubhouse with friendly and helpful staff.
