Now this is a friendly course - one of the friendliest in the North East. No doubt this is part of its success.
First things first this is a old course - about 100 years or at least the original 9 holes are. These original holes are full of charm and have lots to recommend them and to me the better holes on the course.
All the greens are great - up there with the best in the north east. Many of the old greens are tricky - devilish slopes to read - the 17th is especially good
The newer part of the course is starting to mature, it plays longer and generally harder. the 10th 11th and 12th are very tough and known card wreckers. The 10th is especially tough, long par 4 to fast green that slopes away from you.
Lastly I would say this is a flat but testing course, you certainly don't want to slice the ball on many holes - a really good slice can cause some bother on the 4th !
    Well worth a visit

I'd like to thank everybody at heworth golf course for making today such a success. The course is playing really well and the winter greens served their purpose in protecting the course. I hit my best round of 68 today, largely thanks to the lack people watching. The position of the course is ideal for me, being from south shields I can just nip through the fence on the back nine and saves me all those taxing green fees. Thanks again
