You will not find a harder test of golf anywhere! Sloping fairways, large bunkers, Roman Encampment to get over and around, Roads and people walking across this common land! It is well worth the trip!

Hollingbury is a council run course that if you join here you can play Waterhall for free. The pro shop is well kept and maintained and the bar and changing room facilities are excellent. The course is very well maintained and is a tricky course indeed. The greens and the fairways are very well kept and are a delight to play on. At first the course seems pretty easy as you start from the club house with a par three but as you progress around the course it starts to get hilly and, more often than not, when you tee off you cannot see where the hole is just the usual marker to guide you due to the fact of the hills. Some of the holes are reasonably long although not the longest I have played and start to get tricky towards the middle of the round. The only thing lacking in my opinion is a driving range facility as there is nothing worse than going into a game cold. They have a strip of fairway that the tutoring normally takes place on so you really cannot get on there and also it is not very wide. They do have a small putting area, but this is set on a slope and really as the greens are quite flat around the course do not really give you a good indication of how the holes will play. You tend to either play for the hole and it will run a good five feet past the hole or play up the green which obviously requires a lot more power so when you do eventually do play on the greens you tend to either over hit or not hard enough. All in all though Hollingbury is a excellent course situated on the top of Coldean and Hollingbury and is reasonably priced. A course well worth several visits.
