My grandfather, Fred Haskins, grew up in Hoylake. He talked often of playing or caddying at the Hoylake Golf Club. He brought his knowledge and love of the game to the United States where he became the golf professional at the Columbus Country Club in Columbus, Georgia. He dedicated his life to teaching youngsters the game and inspired many who have become pro-class golfers. He was inducted into the Georgia Hall of Fame and The Haskins Award for Golf is named after him. It is awarded to the nation's most outstanding collegiate golfer annually.
He reminisced often about his life in Hoylake, so when I found this web site, I was thrilled and just had to write to thank you for giving my grandfather his start in a life filled with golf. He passed his gift on to many, many people and we are very proud. Sincerely,

I read Jean Hatchechubee's review with interest. I think my grandmothers brother "Alec Ellis" was a professional golfer based at Hoylake. I have a golf driver with his name on "Alec Ellis. Hoylake" He also went to America and I am told he designed or helped to design some of the golf coursres in America. Can anybody throw some light on this?

Hoylake is a very good course. The greens are very well presented. It is a very good course for beginners and high handicappers.
