Although Kilkea Castle has a history dating back to 1181, it owes its present form and vision to it's Irish American owner, Dave Conway. In his words ' At first sight, I felt the place was ideal for tourism and I can't think of a better way of exploiting its potential than through golf. My long-term plans include considerable further investment'. Indeed since 1987, Conway has invested a considerable sum to restore Kilkea Castle to its former glory. With such a commitment there can be little doubt that he will be successful in his quest to establish Kilkea Castle as one of Ireland's premier golf hotels.

Kilkea Castle has been thoroughly modernised. The new course and clubhouse were officially opened in 1997 and the club has since become affiliated to the GUI. Besides golf there are full hotel facilities with restaurant, fitness centre and banqueting and conferencing for up to 270 people. Timeshare holidays are available in the accomodation blocks. Indoor pool, sunas, steam room, jacuzzi, gym, floodlit tennis courts and fishing on the River Griese are just some of the delights on offer.

Course Name: Kilkea Castle Holes: 18 Yardage: 6782 SSS: 70

18 hole par 70 championship parkland course measuring 6200 metres off the 1st tee, and has been developed in this magnificent setting beneath the shadow of a 12th century castle. It allows the splendour of the castle to be viewed from every fairway. The course construction uses the River Griese as a natural hazard flowing through the grounds of the castle. You will encounter the river at almost every hole. Two lakes have also been included into the design, adding to the overall challenge.
