Kilrea Golf Coarse is a joy to play, either with friends or alone, against par. As a past junior captain I have played the coarse many times, and my last was as good as my first. It is a real pleasure.

I have only played the coarse once, with friends. I unfortunately lost, but it was a great game, on an well kept and beautifully green coarse.

A regular at Kilrea, I couldn't let this little gem go unmentioned. Set out on traditional farmland and raised above surrounding peat bogs, most tees offer staggeringly beautiful views. The first and third are extremely testing par threes where accuracy from the tee and firm putting on small but menacing greens are required. The newly extended second is a triumph of home spun design, demanding an accurate drive and a precise second to the largest of the nine greens guarded by hazel coppice . There are few 'given' putts at Kilrea! The reintroduction of sand has called for more thought on holes five and nine which can be fickle friends in certain winds. Hit short into McCormack s (7th) at your peril. (' Calamitys' abound in Irish golf). Don t forget to bathe in the beauty of the countryside and enjoy glimpses of Heron, Buzzards, Tree creepers, Hawks, Pheasant and more on this paradise located on a Proposed Site of Special Scientific Interest. Golf at Kilrea need not be 'a good walk ruined'.
