I played The Old Course for the first time recently and I was very impressed with the condition of the greens in particular. The course itself is not too challenging (apart from the fourth - Mrs.Formans
which is 424 yards but somehow feels longer). It was nice to hit a good long drive in early April and see it run on 80 yards or so due to the dry fairways. An added bonus is that you just can't help but soak up the atmosphere of bygone days on the old links. The place is steeped in history and even some of the early open championhips were held here. The chance to play on an open championship course for a tenner - beat that! I think you only get 9 holes for your money but I simply had to go around twice
    - even though it was raining. Word of warning about the fourth though - first time round I overclubbed with a 9 iron instead of a PW and my ball flew right into the beer garden of the pub at the back of the green. Sorry Mrs.Forman - just as well it was a rainy day! A must play course even if only from a historical point of view.

Musselburgh golf club is one of the most challenging inland courses I have played, at over 6700 yards long its heavily bunkered fairways and greens makes it challenging.
The course has one of the most difficult finishing holes, it is uphill into the prevailing westerly wind, and is the only par 4 I have hit two drivers and a five iron to get home!!
Musselburgh golf club is also the proud owner of tartan tour and European tour professional Fraser Mann so if your golf is not up to scratch!! Get some handy tips from Fraser!!
I played Musselburgh in July last year and looking from the clubhouse down the first and up the last fairways I thought I was standing at Augusta national with the cris-cross striped fairways and greens (obviously the head greenkeeper and his staff take pride in their work)
I personally must recommend you to visit this course this summer, you wont get a more challenging and well manicured golf course as good as this for under twenty pounds anywhere.
