As a member of the club I've enjoyed both the picturesque mature woodland
course and the clubhouse. I've played a few courses where you think to
yourself "this hole is just like the last" and you feel like you're just
playing up and down a field with a few holes just there to make up the
numbers, this is definitely not the case at Newtown. Being built to
accommodate the natural contours each hole presents the player with a new
challenge. With red squirrels, pheasants and some great views of the
surrounding hills from the 13th, 14th and 16th tees there's more than just
the playing course to enjoy. Whilst some of the par 4's are a bit on the
short side the 'difficulty' factor added by the mature trees and rolling
fairways makes them far from boring. It's the kind of course where you can
have a nightmare one day and an absolute dream the next.
It's been a bit wet lately, as have most courses in the west, due to the
overabundance of rain this past while but with a drainage program in the
pipeline this will hopefully be rectified soon. Having said this it doesn't
take that long for the course to dry out given a bit of sun and wind. Thanks
to the hard work of the green keepers many have commented on how good the
greens and fairways have been this year despite the weather .No matter what
the out come of your round there's always a friendly welcome in the bar and
fine quality, good value food available on competition days which are
usually Weekends, Thursday evenings and by advance arrangement with the
    caterers.
