As Hon Secretary of the Club, I was disappointed with the comments made in relation to the course and the difficulties encountered by some golfers.
Major changes have taken place in the Club in 2004. A new course manager has been appointed, and commenced work in August 2004. The course is in excellent condition and testament to this is the numerous favourable comments made by visitors to the club this year. It is one of the finest tests of golf in the locality, with the most competitive green fees you can find.
The whole office structure has been altered with the appointment of staff that ensures the office is now open from 9am to 5.30 six days a week. New structures have been put in place and software purchased to prevent issues like that detailed by one golfer from re-occuring.
I would greatly appreciate if those people who made comments, make themselves known to me or contact the Club directly, so that their issues can be discussed in detail and dealt with. I believe that constructive criticism is positive and is always welcomed by this club.

I was sorry to read the message of poorly run club. Your comment made me happy, as me and my wife were members there between 1986-88 and we have most pleasant memories of the club. Club pro Michael Ryan took good care of us. We moved back to Finland and continued playing here. We are coming to Galway 5.1.05 and plan to visit your club and see if we still regognise it and hopefully we have a chance to play 18 holes during our stay. We have 2 daughters aged 7 and 9, both of them have green cards so we'd like at least have them caddie us if not play.
        Best regards
        Matti Huomanen

ps. I wonder if you still have members that might remember us.

            Hi Matti and Raija
Was idling through the web and came across this posting from 2004 and even though the comments at that time were not so very favourable I was delighted to read your own comment.. I quit as Hon Sec in 2003 but continue to play golf there and indeed I am the current Captain..Do please come and play a round with my compliments next time you visit Ireland..I will pass on all this to Michael Ryan...Best regards..John Waters

Our daughters are now 14 and 12. Laura (14) was runner up at MGC's junior championships and has also won few area tournaments, her HCP is currently 14.6, just about to overtake me.
I also invite You to play our course if you ever happen to come over.
                Best regards,
                Matti and Raija

I must agree with your opinion of this course. I had my own experience in June of 2004. Having booked a group tee time and pre-paying the green fees, one would assume we would be good to go upon arrival. Well, that was not the case. There was actually no record of our tee times, let alone the fact that I, personally, had paid the green fees for our group. There was nobody around who knew what was going on, nor what to do. The day was double if not triple booked, and the best excuse we received was that Oughterard is a "Member run" club. It is not a place I will be returning to. If in the area I would recommend Barna or Galway golf club.

This a really nice course, in good nick with true greens. It is not the hardest course I've ever played but is a good test of golf all the same. The clubhouse facilities and the welcome from everyone was great.
