By eliminating a couple of weaker holes, including a couple of semi-parkland holes on the back nine, Portstewart's Strand course, with its seven new holes in the huge sandhills, is now a formidable links course which can compete with the best courses on the island of Ireland. A particularly good opening hole presents thr golfer with an elevated tee and dog leg right to the gree, with the strand on the right. The Town course offers a more reasonable challenge, measuring 4837 yards

This course it in many respects somewhat 'crazy'. Its beside the main road, so a bad shot can go through a car windscreen, or go across the road and into someone's garden. If your bad shot goes the other way, it ends up on the rocks, or could hit a walker- as walkers can freely use footpath that runs right through part of the course. If that aint enough, this course can be very windy, and car drivers and passengers might shout 'fore' just before you hit the ball to put you off. This course might sound horrendous, but I honestly love it, because the above problems add an exciting dimension to the game that you don't often get from other courses, besides it being a very beautiful course along the Antrim coast. Don't be put off by what I've mentioned, you just have to bee a bit careful on a few of the holes. The holes are beutifully tucked into the rugged coastline, with a few challenging par 3's. Its a very enjoyable course, and only £10 monday to friday.

The Old or Town course is an excellent course for beginners and a nice introduction to playing golf beside the sea, and all that entails. The holes beside the sea have some interesting Par 3s, and hopefully the rocks won't come into play. Once you cross the road to the 'inland' holes you are faced with a 200 Yard Par 3, uphill all the way, very interesting into the wind. The rest of the holes are various Par 4s, a few are a bit flat, but the view over the bay and over to Donegal and Scotland, on a good day, more than make up for that. It is the course I learnt to play most of my golf on, and I recently played with some chaps from England, and they were more than impressed.

My first experience with British golf and the course didn't disappoint! Rain, sun, 25 mph winds with stronger gusts... great fun! The Town course is a bit more scenic being right on the sea but the Strand is a great test.

My grandfather William Coltart was the professional from about 1912 to 1922. Greetings: I have never played your course but would like to someday. I would just like to comment that my grandfather William Maxsted Coltart was a golf professional at Portstewart Golf Club from 1912 until 1922. He also owned a golf shop with his wife Edith where he made his own golf clubs and golf balls. One of his clubs was recently sold to a Swiss Bank last summer as a prize in one of their tournaments. William was also a member of the Royal Blue Lodge #404 F A M which is somewhere nearby. Everyone in the Coltart family were golf pros or in some way involved with the sport. Thanks for this opportunity to communicate. Have a great day. May the wind be at your back, your drives straight, and the birdies plentiful.

Biggest and best surprise of a recent ten-day golf trip. Fabulous course with tremendous variety of holes. Each hole was unique and challenging. 17th is a bear against the wind. The greens were medium-fast and true. We absolutely loved Portstewart.

Super course with magnificent dunes on the front and more open, typical links on the back. Views are spectacular from the elevated tees and greens on the front. I was fortunate to play with members and then share a few pints afterwards in the clubhouse. Nicest bunch of guys you will ever meet. You will love this course!
