By eliminating a couple of weaker holes, including a couple of semi-parkland holes on the back nine, Portstewart's Strand course, with its seven new holes in the huge sandhills, is now a formidable links course which can compete with the best courses on the island of Ireland. A particularly good opening hole presents thr golfer with an elevated tee and dog leg right to the gree, with the strand on the right. The Town course offers a more reasonable challenge, measuring 4837 yards
