The Rolls of Monmouthshire course is positioned within The Rolls Estate. This was the former home of Charles Stewart Rolls, the early aviator and motoring enthusiast, whose flying and ballooning exploits thrilled the nation and who with Henry Royce, founded the famous Rolls Royce Company.

| The Rolls Golf Course is a parkland course, designed in two halves, separated by a large wooden hill. This separation added to the 600 acres of perimeter woodland surrounding the estate, provides peace and tranquillity, which is only broken by the abundance of wildlife including deer, and waterfowl. Played Oct 03. course in excellent condition and after the first 4 holes thought we were in for an easy stroll. Holes became progressively more difficult and the greens were very tricky. When we played there was no rushing or queueing. All in all an excellent cource and would like to play again.

We played Rolls for the second time last week after a year interval. We came back to confirm that Rolls is indeed a smashing test of Golf for players of all standards. We received the same warm and friendly welcome and found everyone at Rolls helpful and obliging( especially the nice ladies in the Cafe)...The course is hard to find ( even for a second time!) but proved again that the drive from Berkshire was well worth it....The 7th is a tricky par five which will kill you if you don't think your way to the green. All the par 3s are memorable, especially the 18th which , along with the 13th, are two of the most striking and deviously deceptive holes on the property. We understand that the Rolls is going to be renovated in the coming year...Please don't take away the unique presence and peace of a truly special place to play the game we all love.

I run the Northumberland Golf Society and back in 1990, we organized a trip to Wales, as luck would have it we accidentally stumbled across The Rolls. From day one, we fell in love with the course and have been back time after time. We play many top courses in our Society, from Wentworth, Stoke Poges, Foxhills etc. But I have to say I have never experienced greens like they have at Monmouth.
The Rolls will find out any weakness you have in your game, but is also wide enough to allow all standards of Golfer to enjoy the experience. Add to all this, the beautiful scenery and relatively low cost, it all adds up to a fantastic day out.
Loathed, as I am to publicize this somewhat hidden gem, if you end up reading this review, then I guarantee you an unforgettable experience and many putts.

As Secretary of a local course we have a team fixture with Roll of Monmouth most years.
The course has three different style. If you want to have an enjoyable day out with very few other golfers around you play at your own pace this is mainly due to the time given by the very efficient lady in the Secretaries office.
You can have a very good day playing off the yellow boxes.
The next visit if you could play from the White markers the course is totally different place to play, you must now start thinking about your position on each hole as you play it.
On your third visit as in open days they allow you (I think) to play from the Blue boxes this now becomes a very tuff challenge with many par 4's being 2 very good woods.
The condition of the course is always in excellent condition, With the greens being fast but very good. Your welcome in the club house is always friendly with nothing being to much trouble.
I trust that the visitors who read this will visit this very under rated Golf Course.

The most beautiful course you re ever likely to play unless you re either very rich or very lucky. The course is always immaculate and for some very strange reason that I can' t fathom out, nearly always empty. Although quite long it is a fair test of golf without any real nightmare holes. The par 3 s can be a little intimidating if the wind is blowing and the par 5 s are true par 5 s in that very few people will reach them in 2 shots. The shorter hitters will certainly be hitting at least a medium iron to the green for 3.
The staff are friendly with none of the snobbishness which can sometimes be associated top class clubs. Give it a try before the rest of Britain find out just how great this course really is.
