Thetford is not for the faint of heart. Considered by many to be the most challenging course in Norfolk, it boasts two of the hardest par 4s you can play, numbers 9 and 13. The 16th is a magnificant par 3 play over thick heather and is often graced by dear adn pheasant. Many European pros travel to play Thetford and are not dissapointed. It also boasts a comfortable clubhouse that has a variety of cold lager and ale on tap. Cheers!

I have played this course many times and it is one of the best courses i have played. I usualy play it annualy and each time it offers a different challenge as my ability impoves. Greens are slick and fast, woods are as imposing as always and the newer holes develop more everytime i go. I would recomend this course to anyone and everyone.

I played the course on a Monday morning, on a County Card. I was charged only £10 instead of the £16 because they were working on the greens.
I enjoyed playing on a course with dense, mature trees, gorse and beautiful heather, which was in bloom. There were a few interesting holes, particularly the par 3, 16th hole. But all in all I found the course to be quite flat and most holes repetitive.
I do have a complaint which is to do with the portable course planner booklet. My friend and I both found it disappointing and actually annoying that the women's yardage was not marked. Consequently, we were constantly doing mental arithmetic on every hole, trying to figure out the various yardages. I know there are fewer women who play the game, but given that some of the club's competitions for women have been going since 1938, we would have thought that 62 years later, women's interest and commitment to the game would be matched by proper guidance from a purchased, course planner. Also, in this age of heavily played courses, everyone is interested in speeding up play, so making all women do the arithmetic does slow us down considerably.

I played at Thetford Golf Club in June 2000. It really is a most impressive course, and was in superb condition throughout. The course is long enough and tight, to ensure that your concentration never wanders. I would place it on a par with Hunstanton Golf Club, as far as courses in Norfolk are concerned. It is well worth a visit.
