Yes, I agree - a course of two contrasting halves. The front nine through the woods are a test of skill - and endurance. It's hilly and tricky. The first is well protected by water and ninth drops down and then climbs up to a tee that's well-protected by bunkers. No wonder it's stroke index one. My personal prference was the flater second half which appeals more to the seniors! The greens are excellent and, in some cases difficult to read. Great grub, well served in a clubhouse that positively oozes history and character.

If ever there was a course of two halves, this is it. One half picks its way through mature woodland, with excellently designed holes that test all aspects of your game. The other half seems to go back and forth across a flat open plain. A matter of taste whether the excellence of the one half makes up for the lack of interest on the other half. On the other hand, it is well maintained and has good facilities, with the food especially being very good.
