I recently spent a great day at this course as part of a golf society I am involved with from Barnsley. I can safely say this is one of the best courses I have had the pleasure to play.
The club set up is excellent with great facilities and a 'classy' clubhouse. For those of you who can't handle walking 36 holes in one day (like me) don't despair as they have plenty of buggies for hire at reasonable rates.
The course itself is in excellent condition, especially the greens which are some of the best I have seen, all be it pretty fast. Although not over demanding 'hazard' wise, extra thought is required in terms of shot selection as the bunkers / water which guard many of the greens have been placed in tricky positions. Also, there are a number of fairway bunkers, most of which are out of view from the tee.
Accuracy is the biggest key to this course. The rough generally doesn't seem too bad...until you hit one in there!!!
Once you've signed your card and boasted / moaned about your days efforts you can look forward to an excellent meal, again one of the best I've had at a golf club.
All in all this a great days golfing and I hope to be back again (a little wiser!!) in the near future. All the best, PS - Crosland Heath in Huddersfield is our next Society day in June 2000 - look out for my review!!
