Golf Girona was inaugurated in 1992. Thanks to its geographical location, Golf Girona enjoys a privileged position being only 4 kilometres from the centre of Girona, less than an hours drive from Barcelona (the grounds are 800metres from the A7 motorway). The grounds in which the Golf Girona are located are completely isolated from the urban life of Girona, resting as they do between valleys and hills with views of the hills of the Govones Mountains. These hills not only isolate the course from the city life, but also from a perfect windbreak on windy days.

The clubhouse atGirona Golf Club, which covers over 3000m2, is built with natural stone and glass. It fits in beautifully with its surroundings, and its high wide windows look out on the natural setting and let the light come shining in.

Golf Girona was founded a decade ago with the aim of bringing the game of golf to the people of the area. As well as those who choose the Costa Brava as their holiday destination.

We have a program of golfing holidays with the rest of the courses in the area, hotels and services. The golf course is 180m /600feet above sea level between the valleys and hills of dense pines and native vegetation.

Course Details

Course Name: Girona Holes: 18 Yardage: 6673 SSS: 72
The prestigious architect, FG Hawtree, designed the courses and he himself describes it as ' one of my finest creations'. The quality of the design is matched by the care taken in its maintenance, being the only course in Spain that has been seeded with 'Penncross' grass. The course takes full advantage of the topography and the natural shaping of the terrain, with the result that the course is elegant and pleasing and at the same time challenging for the golfers of all levels. The course consists of 18 holes, par 72 and covers a distance of 6,100 meters.

I wrote nine years ago that I was disappointed by the condition of the course, so it's only fair to say I have played it again and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Perhaps it still needs a little TLC in places, but the fairways and greens were excellent and meant we appreciated the impressive lay-out of the course at its best.

Played Girona in May and found the course in very good condition. Only problem was with the approach to the 13th which was waterlogged. Greens were quick and true. The only negative point which we fed back was that the bunkers were a bit scruffy.
Stayed in Hotel Costabella about 3km from course, excellent location (5 Euro cab ride from town) and good value for money. Go via Girona Golf website for link.

Sorry to read from John's review that he was disappointed with the course. Played there in October and it wasnt at its best. It had been dry, then very wet and this had affected the condition of the course.
I have found the course to be challenging, a nice layout cut through the woods up in the hills. It has some stunning holes, but they get forgotten if the course isnt up to scratch.
Staff have always been really friendly and I understand they have had the restaurant and bar refurbished.
Im going out again in May and will post another review when I get back.

We played the course in October. No problems with the lay-out, but the course was in poor condition and clearly needs some care, attention - and money - invested in it. The cart tracks which you are ordered to us are badly worn and positively dangerous in places.
