Herreria Golf Club was founded in 1967, located in the foothills of the spurs of the Guadarrama mountain range, in San Lorenzo, with wonderful views of the Real Monastery of El Escorial. Designed by Antonio Lucena it consists of a 18 hole, par 72 course

This is the palace-monastery of El Escorial (1563-84), which Philip II had built as a retreat outside Madrid. It is a great contrast to the worldly Palace of Charles V with its tournament court set in the luxurious, sensuous Alhambra. El Escorial was more than a royal palace, as it also contained provisions for a monastery and college. A city in itself, El Escorial was planned as a tremendous rectangle (675 by 525 feet), with a large church at the centre.

Facilities include putting green, club house with showers and lockers, pro-shop with club and trolly hire and golf classes. Other facilities include , tennis, swimming pool, cafeteria and restaurant.

Directions
Escorial, 50km west of Madrid.

La HerrerĂa is a fine, well-kept course, little outside Madrid and easily to be reached within the hour from the city-centre. The course is hilly with beautiful views of the old monastry. Fairways are fairly wide, but mostly surrounded by trees. Hook or slice is punished. When we played the fairways were a little dry, but that is a problem for all of Spain. Some fairways were under repair.
Recommended course, but play it on weekdays, the weekend is impossible to get a teetime!
