The Château de la Poupelière is part of the Sainte Honorine-la Chardonne village, close to the calvados region in the Normandy bocage also known as 'La Suisse Normande' due to its undulating countryside. It was bought by Guillaume VELAY on the 17th of August 1858 and stayed in the family for 5 generations, until 1989.
When Mr. VELAY bought this property in 1858, it was a huge rectangular house. He added the right hand side of the Château in 1882 and the second part, on the left, was between 1892 & 1894. The 16 by 8 metres' room is a very high building composed of several turrets and is now our reception room. The Château was fortunately spared the two World Wars, especially during the Second World War as Condè sur Noireau, a town a few miles away, was wiped out.
One of the turrets was destroyed by a fire in August 1936 and is now replaced by the terrace. The family property is now The Sainte Honorine Golf & Country Club.
Accommodation
At Ste. Honorine Golf & Country Club we have a range of accommodation; from log cabins to luxury apartments.
The cabins are situated in the grounds immediately surrounding the Château. Each cabin has a fully equipped kitchen, a double and a twin bedroom, a bathroom with either a bath or shower, a lounge with T.V. and a small patio area.
The 18th Century Château has been converted to house 9 suites and 2 apartments. All suites range in price due to the size or the standard to which they have been furnished. Each suite has a double bedroom with an en-suite bathroom and selected suites have lounge areas as well.
There are 2 apartments are situated at the top of the Château providing an excellent view of the golf course. Each apartment is very spacious with two double bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen and a fully furnished lounge with T.V.

Course Details
Course Name: Ste. Honorine Holes: 18 Yardage: SSS: 70 |
Within the ground of the Château de la Poupelière is an internationally acclaimed 18-hole golf course. This course took 3 ½ years to design and build and is a par 71. It was created by a designer with many years' experience who had previously completed eleven other courses around the world. The course has been designed in order to preserve the original landscape; retaining unspoilt parkland, lakes and woods. A number of tournaments have been held at this course, which has created a reputation for a demanding and exacting game. As well a the golf course the Château has a putting area and a driving range where the better and the lesser-experienced golfers can practice their skills before trying out the demanding course. On-site is a golf professional's shop, which stocks an extensive range of clubs and equipment. Clubs can be hired, along with buggies and trolleys, which may be ideal for those that wish to tackle one of the largest par 5 holes in Europe, 691 yards! SSS: Championship: 70, Men: 68, Ladies: 72. For an appreciation and independent view of this course please see golfer reviews. ![]() |

I was looking for some information on the net and came across the website for the St Honorine golf club. I have lived in the area for the past 6 years and the course has been closed for all this time. It appears that the owners were evading tax payments and the chateau and land have been confiscated by the state, who have left in a state of disrepair

hi,Denise and Michael,
I was wondering if you have found anything out about the chateau, or golf course ? I am very interested as to what happened to it ? I worked on the construction of the course in 1992, and i know who owned it at the time, and the tax story sounds very possible ! please let me know anything you have found out about it all. how long has it been closed, etc,
many thanks

Hello,
I am French, I live not far from the castle. The castle is still abandoned. The golf too. You will find an article on what happened there (in French) here:
http://www.francesoir.fr/actualite/justice/chateau-poupeliere-un-fiasco-justice-anti-blanchiment-120868.html
I think it is difficult to contact the owners at present, and they have no desire to reopen the castle.
If you want more information, please.
