Vilamoura Pinhal Course
The Pinhal Course - 8125 Vilamoura
Tel.: 00 351 289 310 333

This was the second golf course built in Vilamoura and inaugurated in 1976, having originally been designed by Frank Pennink, the architect of the nearby Vilamoura Old Course.

Several refinements were incorporated over the years, the most significant one by Robert Trent Jones Sr. in 1985. It is typified by rolling parkland terrain covered with numerous umbrella and Atlantic pines that line many of the fairways and a few even stand out on fairways or near greens.

Ponds and a stream come into play on five holes but are not serious threats to above-average golfers. To keep up with modern technical advances in clubs and balls, several holes have recently been lengthened and the par-72 course now measures 6,353 metres off the white tee markers.

The clubhouse was completely renovated and modernised at the turn of the millennium and from the large verandah one can enjoy a panoramic view over the excellent driving range and practice facilities.

I played Pinhal during May 2009 and quite frankly I found the course (excepting most of the greens) in poor condition. Fairways were in many places bare and not well maintained and sand bunkers in a particularly poor state.
Having played Pinhal several years ago, when it was in great condition, I was very dissapointed this time.
Pull your socks up Oceania and bring the course back into its previous condition - Golf in Portugal is now expensive for Brits and we have a choice!

Played this course 3 times now and I am sure its getting longer! Premium is on long and accurate driving with stamina thrown in. Our last round was never ending due to the course being overbooked, unusual for courses in this area to be over sold, but if you start at the 10th (Blind tee shot over brow of hill) be prepared to get peppered from behind once you are out of sight! Greens were to usual Vilamoura high standards.

We are a group of 3 PGA pros and 5 amateurs looking to play your course between 23-28/01/06. Do you offer courtesy of the course to pros and what is the cost to the amateurs?
    Regards, John Dwyer.
