Even in golf-cradle Scotland, Prestwick Golf Club stakes some serious historic claims to fame. Acclaimed as one of Old Tom Morris' finest designs, Prestwick hosted the first British Open in 1860 (and 23 more through the 1920s).

Today this links golf course near Glasgow isn't big enough to host a major, but Prestwick is still the site of national and international competitions. With blind shots aplenty, the course can be a real test for first-timers. Club officials recommend rookies take a caddie to help them get around. A series of dunes blocks most of the sea views, but they also help cut down the wind as well.
